History of SACE
A 1996-97 institutional evaluation commissioned by the Canadian International Development Agency stated that CBIE members should reinforce their ownership of CBIE. In response to this evaluation, CBIE struck a Task Force on Membership Revitalization. As part of its mandate, the Task Force was asked to develop a strategy to more actively engage members.
A Student Advisory Steering Committee comprised of Ben Yang, Debbie King, Abdo Ghié, Caroline Reid, Alana Robb, Diane Brockman, Roopa Trilokekar, Keith Hotchkiss and Benny Quay was formed in Halifax at CBIE's October 1998 conference. In May 1999 the Task Force presented its recommendations and report to the Board of Directors of CBIE. Among its findings was a recommendation that five Chapters, including Student Advisory (SACE), were to be instituted.
The first meeting of the Student Advisory Chapter (SACE) was at the CBIE conference in November of 1999. Abdo Ghié was the first Chair.
In 2001, membership in the SACE chapter reached the required 50 designated members and SACE was officially recognized by CBIE.
