Criteria/Categories of Membership and Corporate Sponsorship

1. INSTITUTIONS- Canadian
1.1 Universities, colleges, cégeps
Criteria:
That they be Canadian public post-secondary educational institutions enrolling international students or interested in promoting the role of international education. A statement of objectives or programs in international educational exchange must accompany application, as well as any of the following relevant documents: Annual Report, Bylaws, Letters Patent, Constitution.
1.2 Boards of Education
Criteria:
That they be Canadian public boards of education which are involved or wish to be involved in international education. A statement of interests or involvement in international educational exchange must accompany application, as well as any of the following relevant documents: Annual Report, Bylaws, Letters Patent, Constitution.
PRIVILEGES:
Each institutional member shall be represented by representatives designated by the member in accordance with the established schedule of fees and representation approved by the Board of Directors. All representatives receive CBIE's news bulletin Canadian Internationalist free of charge. They can purchase other CBIE publications and audiovisuals at reduced rates as well as attend CBIE's national conferences at reduced rates. Up to seven (7) designated voting members are entitled to vote at CBIE's Annual General Meeting and in elections for the Board of Directors in accordance with the established schedule of fees and representation approved by the Board of Directors. An institutional member may designate one of its non-voting delegate positions as a voting position, on the condition that this voting position be filled by a full-time student at the institution.
2. ASSOCIATES- Canadian
2.1 Government departments and agencies
2.2 Non-governmental organizations
Criteria:
That they be government departments or agencies or local, regional, national or international non-governmental organizations based in Canada, or non-governmental organizations based in Canada which are involved in international education and/or desire to support the international education role of CBIE. A statement of interests or involvement in international education must accompany application, as well as any of the following relevant documents: Annual Report, Bylaws, Letters Patent, Constitution.
2.3 Accredited language schools
Criteria:
That they be language schools desiring to support the international education role of CBIE, accredited by a recognized government or non-profit organization. A demonstrated international commitment or statement of interest or involvement in international education must accompany application, as well as any of the following relevant documents where applicable: Annual Report, Bylaws, Letters Patent, Constitution.
2.4 National and provincial student organizations
Criteria:
That they be national or provincial student organizations or associations with an interest in and a commitment to international activities. A statement of interest or involvement in international educational exchange must accompany application.
PRIVILEGES:
Each associate member shall be represented by four (4) representatives designated by the member in accordance with the established schedule of fees and representation approved by the Board of Directors. Representatives receive CBIE's news bulletin Canadian Internationalist free of charge. They can purchase other CBIE publications and audiovisuals at reduced rates as well as attend CBIE's national conferences at reduced rates. Two (2) designated voting members are entitled to vote at CBIE's Annual General Meeting and in elections for the Board of Directors.
3. CORPORATE SPONSORS
3.1 Private consulting and training firms
3.2 Private companies and private institutions
Criteria:
That they be private sector consulting and training firms, private companies or private institutions desiring to support the international education role of CBIE. A statement of interest or involvement in international education must accompany application, as well as any of the following relevant documents where applicable: Annual Report, Bylaws, Letters Patent, Constitution.
PRIVILEGES:
Each corporate sponsor shall be represented by two (2) representatives designated by the sponsor in accordance with the established schedule of fees and representation approved by the Board of Directors. Representatives receive CBIE's news bulletin Canadian Internationalist free of charge. They can purchase other CBIE publications and audiovisuals at reduced prices as well as attend CBIE national conferences at reduced rates. The corporate sponsors are not entitled to vote at CBIE's Annual General Meeting nor in elections for the Board of Directors.
4. SUPPORTING
4.1 Regular
Criteria:
That they be individuals desiring to support the international education role of CBIE. A statement of interest or involvement in international educational exchange must accompany application. This is particularly appropriate for Board alumni or those who have retired or left the field but who wish to stay connected.
PRIVILEGES:
Each regular member receives CBIE's news bulletin Canadian Internationalist. He/she can purchase other CBIE publications and audiovisuals at reduced prices as well as attend CBIE's national conferences at reduced rates. The regular member is not entitled to vote at CBIE's Annual General Meeting nor in elections for the Board of Directors.
4.2 Student
Criteria:
That they be students desiring to support the international education role of CBIE and enrolled in a full-time course of study. Application for membership must be accompanied by verification of full-time enrolment and a statement of interest or involvement in international educational exchange must accompany application.
PRIVILEGES:
Each student member receives CBIE's news bulletin Canadian Internationalist free of charge. He/She can purchase other CBIE publications and audiovisuals at reduced prices as well as attend CBIE's national conferences at reduced rates. The student member is not entitled to vote at CBIE's Annual General Meeting nor in elections for the Board of Directors.
