CBIE is a leading advocate for international education.
CBIE advocates on behalf of and in partnership with member institutions and organizations across Canada. Key focus areas: international student access to off-campus and post-graduation work; international scholarships; branding of Canadian education; and international development cooperation.
CBIE advocacy has led the federal government to include international education as an important element of our foreign policy; establish advisory bodies such as the Advisory Committee on International Students and Immigration and National Education Marketing Roundtable; and modify policies to enhance Canada’s competitive position in international education.
CBIE advocacy with provincial governments and the Council of Ministers of Education, Canada has played a key role in expanding international education activities in several provinces.
Working collaboratively with partner organizations, CBIE urges greater government support of study abroad by Canadians. In 2007 CBIE, in collaboration with three associations representing education and the private sector, issued a joint statement directed to the federal government and all political parties urging vastly increased commitment to international scholarships to enable students to prepare for work in a globalized environment.
Thanks to CBIE’s efforts and those of our counterparts internationally, G8 leaders at the 2006 summit made their first major statement on international education – a resounding endorsement of educational mobility.
