CBIE envisions a world open to the kind of education which nurtures and improves the human condition; has no borders or bounds; takes people both to and from Canada for international teaching and learning; and produces new generations of internationalists within a global learning culture. Committed to innovation, CBIE will be a catalyst in global transformation and development through education.
What is CBIE's Mission?
The mission of CBIE is to promote international understanding and development through the free movement of people and active exchange of ideas, information, advice, educational and training programs and technologies across national borders.
To this end, CBIE:
- promotes the interest of the international learner - the foreign national learning in Canada, and the Canadian learning overseas - in both formal and non-formal educational experiences;
- advocates and supports the internationalization of its member institutions and Canadian society generally;
- engages in educational projects with countries around the world;
promotes the professional development of those working in the various professions of the field of international education;
- forges educational partnerships between Canada and other countries for purposes of academic exchange and development assistance;
- promotes the international trade of Canadian educational goods and services.
When was CBIE established?
CBIE was incorporated in 1966. The organization developed in the late 1940s. CBIE’s earlier names were Friendly Relations with Overseas Students (FROS) and Canadian Service for Overseas Students and Trainees (CSOST).
