What is CBIE’s role?

The Ministry of Education and Scientific Research in Libya agreed to work through the Canadian Bureau for International Education to place and support Libyan students in American and Canadian educational institutions for graduate and postgraduate medical education or other programs, as requested by the Ministry. CBIE is responsible for providing the following: 

  • Student Placement – arrange for placements at universities in Canada and the US
  • Student Support Services – provide pre-departure and on-arrival information about Canada and the US, the city of destination, academic institutions, visa application and renewal advice,  travel assistance, advise on housing and other student support services 
  • Academic Monitoring - monitor students’ academic progress in collaboration with students’ academic advisors and provide counselling and support when required
  • Financial Services – distribute monthly living allowance, computer, book, travel allowances and other mandatory fees; payment of tuitions, registration and other fees to institutions
  • Health Insurance – arrange for a comprehensive health coverage for students
  • Collaboration with the Libyan Authorities – facilitate the implementation of the  Scholarship Rules and Regulations, maintain communication and provide regular student academic progress reports

What is the role of the Ministry of Education and Scientific Research?

The Ministry provides the following:

  • Determination of Rules and Regulations
  • Student Recruitment and Selection
  • Sponsorship Approval and Documentation
  • Pre-Departure Services – provide information on Libyan exit requirements and Canada/United States visa formalities
  • Funding – issuing funds for Program expenditures, including travel to Canada/US, university tuition and required fees, health insurance, enrollment, living allowances, book allowances, computer allowance, settling-in allowance, conferences and seminars if applicable, travel expenses and other one-time expenses such as institutional application and notarization charges.
  • Collaboration with CBIE – facilitate the implementation of the Scholarship Program
