CBIE has created an Orientation Manual to help you prepare for your studies in Canada.

Additionally, new Libyan students who have been accepted into the Scholarship Program can click here for a quick overview of the first steps you should take!

While in Libya

Step 1—Complete the online Nominated Student Application Form.

Step 2—Upon receipt of the completed application form, your information will be reviewed by Ms. Shanna Scarrow (SScarrow@cbie.ca), who will begin the placement process in Canada. If Shanna has any questions, she will contact you by email.

Step 3—If you need English as a Second Language (ESL), Shanna will place you in a recognized ESL program in Canada. This process could take up to one month. If you meet the English Language requirements, Shanna will work closely with you in preparing your application package for academic admission in Canada. This process for application for academic admission in Canada could take up to six months.

Step 4—Upon receipt of admission in Canada, CBIE will send you a copy of the admission letter by email, at which point you will apply for your Canadian visa.

Preparing for your Arrival in Canada

Step 1—Inform the Ministry when your visa to Canada is ready and also confirm your travel plans to Canada. The Ministry will inform CBIE accordingly and provide authorization to CBIE to activate your scholarship upon your arrival in Canada.

Step 2—Inform CBIE by email that you have received your visa and also notify CBIE of your confirmed dates of travel to Canada. You may contact Ms. Shanna Scarrow by email (SScarrow@cbie.ca). For Arabic-only communication, you may contact Ms. Anan Terhi by email (aterhi@cbie.ca). It is very important to ensure that you arrive in Canada at least one week prior to the beginning of your admission start date.

Step 3—Consider your options for accommodation in Canada. Although CBIE is not responsible for your accommodation in Canada, we can guide you in your options. You may also refer to your institution’s website which will provide helpful advice for all new students.

Step 4—Consider whether or not you would like to be met at the airport upon arrival in Canada. In this case, there are options through either the institution or private companies. CBIE is not responsible for the airport pick-up, but can assist in providing advice and coordinating the arrangements. The cost for this service is the student’s responsibility.

Step 5—Prior to traveling to Canada, confirm with Ms. Shanna Scarrow (SScarrow@cbie.ca) that we have received the authorization from the Ministry to activate your allowances in Canada.

Arrival in Canada

Step 1—You should plan to arrive in Canada at least one-two weeks prior to the beginning of your admission start date.

Step 2—Upon arrival in Canada, contact CBIE to confirm your arrival. Our head office is located in Canada’s capital - Ottawa, Ontario. The CBIE staff would be pleased to meet with you in our office and to provide an in-person orientation. However, if you are not able to travel to Ottawa, arrangements can be made to communicate with you by email and by telephone in order to activate your scholarship in Canada.

Step 3—CBIE will provide all new students with an Orientation Manual upon arrival in Canada. The manual will contain helpful information concerning your scholarship entitlements, contact information at CBIE, your admission in Canada, your health insurance, and much more.

Step 4— CBIE will begin your scholarship allowances upon receipt of the Ministry’s authorization to activate your scholarship in Canada.

Step 5 – Now that you have arrived in Canada and activated your scholarship, we encourage you to refer to the Current Students section for questions related to our beautiful country, our education system and your scholarship in Canada.

Welcome to Canada – we look forward to working with you to meet your educational objectives!
